About Tetris
Tetris, invented by Alexey Pajitnov in 1984, is the best-selling video game franchise in history. Seven different tetromino shapes fall into a 10×20 well; your job is to rotate and place them into complete horizontal lines, which vanish and score points.
How to Play Tetris
- 1Move falling pieces with ◀ ▶ (or A/D), rotate with ▲ (or W).
- 2Soft-drop with ▼ for one point per cell, hard-drop with Space to slam a piece instantly.
- 3Complete a full horizontal row to clear it — clearing 4 rows at once is a "Tetris".
- 4Every 10 lines the level rises and pieces fall faster.
- 5The game ends when the stack reaches the top of the well.
Tips & Strategy
- ◆Keep the stack flat; height differences of more than two rows create dead pockets.
- ◆Reserve one column (usually the far right) for the long I-piece and Tetris clears.
- ◆Learn each piece's rotations before you need them — hesitation at high levels is fatal.
- ◆Use the ghost outline to confirm exactly where a hard drop will land.
- ◆Never bury a hole under multiple rows; dig it out immediately while the stack is low.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is scoring calculated?
Single, double, triple and Tetris clears score 100, 300, 500 and 800 points multiplied by the current level, so clearing four lines at once is worth far more than four singles.
What is the fastest way to raise my score?
Build for Tetrises early while the speed is low, then switch to safe singles and doubles once the fall speed gets dangerous.
Do pieces come in a random order?
Yes — pieces are drawn randomly, so a flexible, flat stack that can accept any shape is the core of good play.
